BAYONNE AND JERSEY CITY RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE
AT PUBLIC MEETING FOR BUS RAPID TRANSIT FEASIBILITY STUDY
Jersey City, NJ - The Bayonne/Greenville/ Journal Square Bus Rapid Transit Study is investigating the feasibility of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to improve north-south bus service between Bayonne and Jersey City. The study aims to increase mobility to employment centers, educational institutions, and the PATH Journal Square Transportation Center, and support quality of life through improved access to shopping, community centers, and local neighborhoods. BRT is a flexible, efficient, and innovative public transportation tool that improves urban mobility with additional services and priority treatments to make travel more efficient and comfortable.
"I urge residents in Bayonne and Jersey City to take part in this important study," said County Executive Tom DeGise. "The first step to controlling traffic congestion is developing better mass transportation alternatives to replace the cars choking our roads and our air. This study is the first step toward that goal. Attend one of the study public sessions. Make your voice heard on this important issue."
The following Public Meetings provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the study, while providing input about the possible routes and BRT features. The first Public Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center, located at 140 Martin Luther Jr. Drive, Jersey City, NJ 07305. The second Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Bayonne City, City Hall, located at 630 Avenue C, Bayonne, NJ 07002.
