The County of Hudson is pleased to unveil the "Draft" implementation plan for the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The document was produced with the generous support of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Office of Smart Growth. The plan has also received critical guidance and valuable input from representatives from the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, the Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy, the Hudson River Property Owners and Conservators Association, the Fund for a Better Waterfront, the City of Bayonne, the City of Jersey City, the City of Hoboken, the Township of Weehawken, the Town of West New York, the Town of Guttenberg, the Township of North Bergen, the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, the Hudson County Improvement Authority, the Hudson EDC, the Hudson TMA, the NJTPA and the N.J. Department of Transportation.
The plan was produced to address a number of critical issues and seeks to: 1) identify and assess all waterfront properties, 2) examine and address legal issues, 3) investigate available financial and technical resources, 4) seek community outreach and consensus, and 5) recommend action strategies. The plan will hopefully expedite the assessment, acquisition, and construction phases of the walkway and help revitalize New Jersey's most dynamic urban area by spurring economic development and creating much needed open space.
The Hudson County Division of Planning has established a 60 day public comment period for the "Draft" plan. Please send all written comments to the Division of Planning, Brennan Court House, 583 Newark Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07306.
