Vega Elected to Eighth Consecutive Term
As Chairman of Freeholder Board
Freeholder
Silverio A. Vega of West New York was elected to his eighth
consecutive term as Chairman of the Hudson County Board of
Freeholders at the board’s annual reorganization meeting
held in January.
Freeholder
Thomas F. Liggio of North Bergen was elected Vice Chairman and
Freeholder Jeffrey Dublin of Jersey City was elected Chairman
Pro Tempore.
The
election of Vega makes him the longest serving Freeholder
Chairman in the history of Hudson County and he expressed his
appreciation to his colleagues by pledging to “keep the
process of government open to all members of the board as well
as the general public.” He also pledged to maintain the
Board as a viable and equal partner in county government.
In addition to his Freeholder duties, Vega also
serves as a Commissioner in West New York and as a member of
the National Association of Counties (NACO) Human Services and
Education Steering Committee. After the Democratic convention
of 2004 he received a commission as a Kentucky Colonel from
Governor Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, joining such luminaries
as Winston Churchill, John Glenn, Lyndon Johnson, Muhammad
Ali, Carol Channing, Whoopi Goldberg and Tiger Woods.
