Please join us for the opening reception welcoming the exhibit, “Textile and Culture” on February 8, 2012 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Brennan Gallery located in the Hudson County Justice William J. Brennan Court House, 583 Newark Avenue, Jersey City.

According to Neal Brunson, Executive Director of the Afro- American Historical Society Museum, who organized "Textile and Culture":

"The most obvious use of textiles and quilts is as clothing and bedding. However, a study of both of these genres reveals that they have so much more meaning to them. The Afro-American Historical Society Museum, over the past 25 years, has been collecting both African American quilts and appliqués and African textiles. The striking similarities in both are at the heart of this exhibit."

The exhibit runs from February 8, 2012 through February 24, 2012. The Brennan Gallery is a fully accessible venue. There is free parking in the lot to the side of the building for the opening reception. The Gallery is located three blocks from the Journal Square PATH station. Gallery hours are Monday –Friday from 9:00am – 6:00pm. For more information please call 201-459-2070

“Textile and Culture” is sponsored by the Hudson County Executive’s Office and funded by Board of Chosen Freeholders. It will overseen by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs/Tourism Development.
